CoSA receives Exemplary School Designation

Coronado School of the Arts Earns Arts Schools Network Exemplary School Designation

North Charleston, SC (August 12, 2020) – The Arts Schools Network Board of Directors has designated Coronado School of the Arts an Exemplary School in recognition of its commitment to excellence. The five-year designation is awarded for 2020-2025.

Arts Schools Network (ASN), the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools, awards Exemplary School designations to members that follow A Guide to Assessing Your Arts School in strategically evaluating their school’s purpose, operations, and educational programs. The Guide is a collaborative effort by ASN and the Accrediting Commission for Community and Pre-collegiate Arts Schools (ACCPAS). Due to Covid-19 and the inability to host an in-person conference in 2020, ASN will honor the school at the Awards Breakfast hosted during the ASN 2021 Annual Conference, in Chicago, IL.

Talented, creative, focused, and determined. These are the students who seek a high school that understands their needs and nurtures their blossoming arts skills. They find that school in Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA). CoSA applies a selective admissions process, with the result that admitted students are surrounded by other young learners who share their passion for the arts. CoSA embraces, encourages, and empowers artistic creativity and academic excellence. CoSA is the place for aspiring young artists to immerse themselves in an afternoon of classes in one of its six (6) conservatories: Classical & Contemporary Dance; Digital Arts (Animation, Filmmaking, Game Design, and Graphic Design); Instrumental Music; Musical Theatre & Drama; Theatre Production Design & Management; and Visual Arts for all qualified high school students in the San Diego region.

Founded in 1996, CoSA offers a nurturing environment focused on individual growth, opportunity, and diversity. CoSA prepares students to be contributors to their higher education schools and career workplaces.

Additionally, CoSA is a State of California-approved Career Technical Education (CTE) program, a California Department of Education (CDE) Model Demonstration Site, and is a member of the Arts Schools Network (ASN). CoSA offers school-to-career pathways within the Career Technical Education (CTE) Arts, Media, and Entertainment (AME) Industry Sector, preparing students for entry-level career 2 opportunities and industry certifications.

Melissa Brookes, Managing Director for ASN, said, “We offer guidance, inspiration and incentives to arts school leaders who strive for excellence in their schools. When they demonstrate outstanding efforts toward this goal, as they do by following A Guide to Assessing Your Arts School, we recognize and reward their achievements with this designation.”

Dedicated to excellence and leadership in arts education, Arts Schools Network, a non-profit association founded in 1981, provides arts school leaders, innovative partners and members of arts education institutions with quality resources, support and networking opportunities.
